The waters of the Eildon Pondage adjacent to the Eildon township will be the home of the Eildon Big Fish Challenge Competition plus a Food & Wine festival presentation that will be held on the third Saturday each October.
The event is sponsored and organised by the local Alexandra Events committee.
On the Saturday evening there will be a Festival running from 5 pm until 9 pm featuring music, a barbeque tea and an auction of local prizes including all types of fishing gear.
Sunday will also be the Family Fun Day with trade displays, fishing demonstrations, food stalls and tastings and sales of local Upper Goulburn district wines with music and children’s entertainment provided.
The Competition Prize Presentation will commence at 2 pm on Sunday.
The concept for the Challenge has undergone months of planning. The Eildon Pondage is one of the signature destinations of the Murrindindi Shire and while it draws a regular number of fisherpersons we believe it is an underutilised community resource.
The waters are regularly stocked with large fish from the nearby Snobs Creek facility and there are regular reports of the big ones being landed. It is anticipated that many people will make a weekend of it by staying locally or camping to take in some of our districts other features.
